KSU Objectives

1. To cooperate with the Karenni National Education Committee to seek for Karenni students to have access to further studies.
2. To cultivate and upgrade the knowledge of Karenni students in administration to be able to participate in serving Karenni state in all fields now and in the future.
3. To implement the collective goals of the Union by unification of the students' spirit and strength.
4. To cooperate and exchange ideas with other student groups who have also suffered oppression.
5. To support vulnerable students who are facing difficulties so they may continue their studies.
6. To educate and promote the students' morality, dignity and national identity.

Mission of Karenni Student Union

We, the Karenni Students, are against discrimination of race, sex, color and religion in society. We work to get access to higher education and to preserve human dignity and identity.

KSU Aims

To continue to maintain and preserve the collective existence and rights of the Karenni peoples, their culture and traditions, by empowering and supporting the students.

We, the Karenni people

are largely displaced. Our home is in Karenni State, Burma, which shares its borders with Thailand.

Burma is ruled by a brutal military government called the SPDC (State Peace and Development Council) and together with the other ethnic groups of Burma we have had a long ongoing conflict with them. SPDC pursues a policy of ethnic cleansing, and many of us are faced with persecution, abuse, forced labour (slavery), and forced relocation.

Many Karenni people have fled to the jungle as they have been driven out of their villages, or crossed the border to Thailand where we seek asylum in refugee camps.

The brutal SPDC carries out executions, rapes, forced portering for the military and torture without discrimination. While we are temporarily living a limbo refugee life, we have no security in the refugee camps in Thailand due to the constant threat of attack from Burmese forces and forced repatriation.

We receive limited support and basic food from NGOs. We have no rights of movement within Thailand and aren't allowed to work or earn a living.
